1/3 cup plus 2 Tbsp sugar, divided
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup cold butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 (10oz) package cinnamon chips
1 Tbsp butter, melted
In a large bowl, combine flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened. Fold in chips. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently about 12 times. Divide in half. Gently pat each portion into a 7 inch circle. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with remaining sugar. Cut each circle into 8 wedges. Separate wedges and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
These are SO good! They are moister than a traditional scone. We loved these and will be making them over and over. The only thing is that cinnamon chips can be REALLY hard to find. Hersheys makes them, so I might just put a request in at Publix for them to order them for me.
