first time to make scallops

I saw this recipe in Women's Health and thought I'd give it a go. I've never made, never really eaten, scallops. I was happy with how this turned out and it was a quick and easy recipe. Sea scallops are a bit pricey, so I'll be seeking them out when they are on sale in the store.

1/2 cup red onion, minced
1 can white beans, drained and rinsed
1 lb sea scallops
*I used 3/4 lb for 3 people since the original recipe made 4 servings-it gave 4 large scallops per person which was perfect...if making for 2, I'd just use 1/2 lb but the same amount of everything else
1 clove garlic, minced
4 cups baby spinach
2 strips bacon, chopped into small pieces
1 Tbsp unsalted butter
juice of 1/2 lemon

Heat a medium saucepan over low heat and cook bacon until it begins to crisp. Add onion and garlic and sauté until soft and translucent, about 2-3 minutes. Add white beans and spinach. Cook until beans are hot and spinach is wilted. Keep warm. Put a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Blot scallops dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper. Add butter to the pan. After it melts, add scallops. Sear 2-3 minutes on each side until they're deeply caramelized. Add lemon juice and salt and pepper to bean mixture. Divide bean mixture between plates and top with scallops.
